Some STDs can be transmitted by other means besides sexual, such as hepatitis C and HIV AIDS, the transmission medium is through fluids such as blood.

Dr. Pedro Tonda Ribó

ets Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STDs) today are clearly identified. These diseases are those that are generated through sexual contact can be in all its variants, both vaginally, anally and orally.

There are diseases that can only be acquired through sexual contact, such as gonorrhea, herpes, syphilis and human papilloma virus, which today is one of the most common diseases in our population; however, there are STDs that can be acquired in other ways, like the case of HIV AIDS, besides being able to acquire sexually, also can be transmitted through fluids either saliva or blood and hepatitis C, which you can acquire both sexually and through fluids, specifically contaminated blood.

ETS higher and lower risk

The frequency of sexually transmitted infections is variable, there is actually a group of sexually transmitted diseases that are not considered as critical, such as those produced by the fungus candida or by a protozoan that is the trichomona, these they are perhaps the most common but are not the most serious, however, in order of importance the Human Papilloma Virus has acquired great relevance since linked importantly is the incidence of cervical cancer; the other is HIV AIDS because of the importance that the disease is thus also takes precedence.

How is an STD?

Treatments and duration of these for STDs, depend on the type of disease in question. If we talk about the most common diseases (the lowest risk) treatment is usually very fast, can last from 24 hours to 7 days, depending on the severity and type of treatment is chosen. There are others that the duration of treatment is lifelong, as is the case of HIV AIDS, therefore the duration of treatment in these cases will depend largely on what the origin of Sexually Transmitted Infection suffering each patient.

The aftermath of STDs

Side effects of STDs are varied, for example the simplest, like fungus or trichomonas usually leave no injury, however, are syphilis or chlamydia can leave consequences in terms of a decrease in fertility or reproductive capacity of individuals; others, such as the case of the Human Papilloma Virus, may have consequences of increased risk, such as cervical cancer.
