Osteoporosis, a disease that increases bone porosity, generally has no symptoms until a bone breaks and no cure; the treatment is to stop the loss of bone density.

Dr. Ariel Navarrete Francisco Acosta

It is osteoporosis Osteoporosis is the loss of bone density, or in other words, increased bone porosity, making it less dense and therefore weaker.

This increases the likelihood of break (fracture).

Among the most common causes are premature menopause by decreased production of estrogen, prolactin levels increased, hyperparathyroidism, Cushing's syndrome or excess Cortisol, hyperthyroidism, malabsorption of calcium in the intestine; as well as medications such as corticosteroids and anticonvulsants.

Diagnosis

The diagnosis is done with a test called bone densitometry vertebrae and hip, where the density is measured.

This measurement of bone density or mass measurement should be performed in all women at age 65, and depending on the result, is the frequency with which the study should be repeated for surveillance.

Treatment of osteoporosis and chances of cure

In general there are no symptoms until a bone, usually the hip or vertebrae break and when pain in the area of the fracture is generated.

There is no cure as such but the goal is to correct the cause of what is generated: the porosity of the bone and use drugs to stop the loss of bone density.
