It is estimated that 1 in 4 women will suffer from inflammation in the joints and almost half of them will have to leave their work due to the consequences that this disease will leave.

Arthritis is a disease characterized by inflammation or degeneration of the joints located in the Hand. There can be up to 100 variations of this disease, Rheumatoid Arthritis is the most prevalent in women, affecting 75% of them and being more frequent in adolescent girls and women who initiate Menopause.

What are the causes?

One of the main factors is hormonal changes, which are usually more drastic when menstruation begins, during and after Pregnancy, and in Menopause. Other causes are:

- Greater production of antibodies: having a stronger immune system there is a greater capacity to respond to infections, but in turn there is a greater possibility that the system will get out of control, this according to Kathryn Sandberg, Director of the Center for the Study of Gender Differences in Health, Aging and Sickness from Georgetown University Medical Center, USA.

- Sedentary life: including Smoking and Alcoholism

- High cholesterol: the accumulation of fat deposits in the body can develop the disease

- Less strong muscles and skeleton: women tend to do less physical activity, which means that they have weaker bones

- Pregnancy: the hormonal change could cause the disease to appear

Experts recommend paying attention to a family history of Arthritis, as it is another risk factor. They also indicate that a healthy diet and playing sports reduces the chances of suffering from this pathology.
