Carotid surgery or carotid endarterectomy, is a type of surgery used to remove plaque (fatty deposits) that occurs in carotid arteries. The aim of the operation of extraction of the plate is to improve the blood supply to the brain and reduce the risk of suffering a stroke. This type of surgery is indicated when the blockage of the carotid is a considerable degree, normally if through various medical tests it detects that the artery has narrowed 50%. Clinically manifested by numbness, tingling, confusion, muscle weakness ... Although endarterectomy can prevent the onset of a stroke, it would not be indicated for patients who suffer TIAs (transient vascular accident).
